Lying 280 km south of Aswan this remarkable temple, reclaimed stone by stone from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, stands as a testament to the greatness of the Pharaoh Ramses II, and to modern engineering. At the end of your day you will be transferred back to your hotel in AswanFrom the top of the High Dam you can gaze across Lake Nasser, a huge reservoir created when it was built, to Calabash temple in the south and the huge power station to the north.
You will continue to the Unfinished Obelisk in the granite quarries of Aswan where much of the red granite used for ancient temples and colossi came from. The Unfinished Obelisk located in the Northern Quarry still lies where it was carved when a crack was discovered as it was being hewn from the rock.
Your qualified Egyptologist guide will explain how the 1 ton obelisk was carved, and why the crack caused it to be abandoned. Afterwards you will be directed to The Philae Temple which is one of the main sites visited by almost every tour to Egypt is what is billed as Philae, but Philae is actually a nonexistent island now buried beneath Lake Nasser. The island was sometimes visible and sometimes not after the Old Aswan Dam was built, but was permanently submerged by the High Dam. You will be served lunch during you tour.
